  • The United States and dozens of other countries vowed to speed up and strengthen the U.N's overstretched peacekeeping response to crises around the world.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 69th session of UN general assembly in New York today.
  • In his summit discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming days, U.S. President Barack Obama is likely to push for India playing an active role on the global stage, including in the fight against the Islamic State and the scramble to contain Ebola.
  • Modi is scheduled to meet with Srilankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in New York tonight.
National Affairs
  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Sentenced to four years jail term and fined 100 crore rupees in disroportionate assets case.
  • Chennai Central became teh first railway station to get Wi-Fi connectivity after railway minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the facility.
  • The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched at the Rashtrapati Bhavan today with 35 officers and 2000 employees of the President's Secretariat taking part in the cleanliness drive.
  • Cabinet gives nod for President rule in Maharashtra after resignation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Sports Affairs
  • Asian Games 2014:-
    • Indian Archers win gold in compound men's team event.
    • Indian Archers win bronze in compound women's team event.
    • Women grapplers Vinesh Phogat and Geetika Jakhar bagged a Bronze medal each in 48 KG and 63 KG freestyle events respectively.
    • Indian Men's squash team beats Malaysia 2-0 to win first ever gold medal in the event.
    • India are assured of at least five more bronze medals at the 2014 Asian Games after the tennis players put up an impressive display to reach the semifinals of five events.
